You Can Be A Hedonist While Being A Health Nerd

Hedonists: Those who try to have as much pleasure as possible
those who seek fulfilment through pleasure in life

Health: A state of physical, mental and social well-being in which disease and infirmity are absent

Nerd: A person who is extremely interested in a subject and knows a lot of facts about it

life is about pleasure

There are obviously all kinds of ways of enjoying life, and everyone is different. What brings me pleasure, might not do the same for you. But the way I see it, life truly is about the pleasures (because if you don’t enjoy the life you have, what’s the point?).

The little pleasures you experience everyday, the beautiful details you can observe, and also the big, transcending pleasures. From the smell of your morning coffee, the blossoming tree on the way to work, a smile from your friend or partner, to the best love making ever or a life upgrade like a new home or a better job. They all add up to how much you enjoy life.
And I believe the pleasures are best enjoyed while being as healthy as you can. Also, the longer you live while being healthy, the more pleasures you can experience!

Health = pleasure

One of the reasons I am a health nerd, is that I want to be able to experience life to the fullest (because I mean, we only have one life right?), to be healthy enough to do the things I want to do, and strong enough to keep on doing that for as long as possible.

If I don’t feel good, or if I’m foggy in my head and have no energy in my body, I won’t experience the little pleasures that life gives me, and I sure won’t be able to go for the big adventures and do the things I really want to do. For me, health and pleasure are interconnected. The one comes with the other.

The other reason being, of course, that regenerative, organic “healthy” food, is also best for the planet (read more about that here). And I’m in love with life, with our beautiful planet, so I want to do my part in saving it. Because without a healthy planet, there is no life. No life, no humans, no pleasure.

delicious food = health

The reason I am a hedonistic kind of health nerd, is that the best food and good health are also interconnected. I get so much pleasure out of the best quality, healthy food. Growing up in my parent’s garden in the south of France and eating only the freshest, seasonal, organic produce, I got used to the full, delicious flavours of these fruits and vegetables. Believe me, that’s really something else compared to the tasteless produce you get at the supermarket. If you have a garden, you know what I’m talking about.

Now the thing is, these vegetables grown in a small scale garden or farm during the right season, also contain much more nutrients, and taste a lot better. A study showed that organic crops and crop-based foods are up to 60% higher in a number of key antioxidants than conventionally-grown crops and contained less of the toxic metal cadmium (and that’s just one study - I believe there is much more good stuff to be found and said about it, but hey, it’s a start). Sounds like better health to me.

The two things that probably give me the most pleasure in life, are amazing food in good company, and great sex (and by the way, a great sex life/sex drive, are also linked to being healthy).
Give me a large dinner table in a blossoming garden with some friends and fresh, seasonal garden food cooked with love, add some natural wine… et voilà!
That’s a hedonistic paradise.

So what I’m trying to say is, if you go for the best quality food you can find and afford, you will enjoy more of the good life, eat food that tastes better, and be healthier (while saving the planet, too)! It’s totally worth it going the extra mile when it comes to finding and purchasing food.
And what’s better than completely enjoying yourself while getting healthier?

Also, presenting your fantastic food in a beautiful way is part of that good life. In need of special tableware? Take a look in my shop :)
